SBI PO Selection Stages & Exam Structure
The SBI PO selection framework consists of three rigorous phases:
- Phase 1 — Preliminary Examination (Screening): A 1-hour computer-based test of 100 questions (100 marks) with strictly enforced 20-minute sectional timers. Prelims marks are used solely to shortlist candidates for Mains (approx. 10 times the number of vacancies) and do not count toward the final selection merit list.
- Phase 2 — Main Examination (Merit Deciding): Objective test of 200 marks followed by an English Descriptive Paper (Letter & Essay) of 50 marks. Total Mains marks (250) are scaled to a score out of 75.
- Phase 3 — Psychometric Test, Group Exercise & Interview: Psychometric profiling followed by Group Exercise (20 marks) and Personal Interview (30 marks). Total Phase 3 marks (50) are scaled to a score out of 25. Final merit is computed out of 100 (75 + 25).
