The scoring rule used in every section is: net marks = correct × marks per question − wrong × (marks per question × 1/3). Here is an illustrative candidate (the numbers are an example, not real results):
| Section | Questions | Correct | Wrong | Unattempted | Net marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| General Awareness | 40 | 30 | 4 | 6 | 28.67 / 40 |
| Mathematics | 30 | 18 | 8 | 4 | 15.33 / 30 |
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 30 | 14 | 9 | 7 | 11.00 / 30 |
| Total | 100 | 62 | 21 | 17 | 55.00 / 100 |
This candidate attempts 83 of 100 questions and finishes on 55.00 out of 100. The weakest section is General Intelligence & Reasoning at 37% of its marks, which is the number to watch if a sectional cut-off applies. Because the penalty is one-third of a mark, every three wrong answers cancel one correct answer.
