The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the national-level SSC CHSL Examination annually to recruit 10+2 qualified candidates across central government ministries, constitutional bodies, and statutory offices.
SSC CHSL Selection Stages & Exam Structure
The SSC CHSL recruitment process consists of two computer-based tiers alongside qualifying skill tests:
- Tier 1 Preliminary Examination (Screening): A computer-based test of 100 questions (200 marks) spanning 60 minutes. Marks scored in Tier 1 are used only to shortlist candidates for Tier 2 and do not count toward the final selection merit list.
- Tier 2 Mains Examination (Merit Deciding): Consists of Section I (Maths & Reasoning), Section II (English & General Awareness), and Section III Module I (Computer Knowledge), followed by Session II (Skill Test / Typing Test). Final merit is prepared based on aggregate marks scored in Section I and Section II.
- Skill Test / Typing Test: Mandatory qualifying test (DEO: 8,000 / 15,000 key depressions/hour; LDC/JSA: 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi).
