AP DSC 2026 School Assistant English Syllabus: Literature, Vocabulary, Grammar (Content 40 + Methodology 20)

Unlike most subjects, the School Assistant English syllabus names the exact texts for detailed study: eight poems, four essays, two novels, two plays and four short stories. It then lists vocabulary, grammar, writing, dictionary, pronunciation and comprehension areas with a "level of testing" for each. The official content is below in tables.

At a glance

  • Post: School Assistant – English.
  • Written test: 80 marks. Of these, Content is 40 and Methodology is 20 for your subject; the other 20 marks are the common G.K & Current Affairs (10), Perspectives in Education (5) and Educational Psychology (5) sections.
  • Content level stated in the official document: Class VI to Intermediate.
  • This page lists: 4 content units and 10 methodology units, in the order the document gives them.
  • TET weightage: 20% (so the written test is 80 marks), as confirmed for this guide by the site owner; check the detailed notification for the final rule.

Part IV: English Content (40 Marks)

Because the prescribed literature is named, a first step is to collect these 20 texts and read each once for plot, theme and author facts. The vocabulary and grammar tables then give you the level of testing for each area.

The Common 20 Marks

Every School Assistant paper carries G.K & Current Affairs (10), Perspectives in Education (5) and Educational Psychology (5). The syllabus for the last two is the same for all subjects; we have set it out once in our Perspectives in Education and Educational Psychology syllabus guide. The document gives no topic list for G.K & Current Affairs.

How to Divide Your Study Time

As a starting point, split study time in proportion to marks. For every 100 hours of preparation:

BlockMarksHours out of every 100
Subject content40 marks50 hours
Methodology20 marks25 hours
G.K & Current Affairs10 marks12.5 hours
Perspectives in Education5 marks6.25 hours
Educational Psychology5 marks6.25 hours

This split is our own suggestion, not an official one; shift hours toward the units where your mock-test scores are weakest. The syllabus does not publish unit-wise marks, so avoid anyone who claims a fixed number of questions per unit unless they cite a notice.

After each mock test, enter your section-wise marks in the tool in our AP DSC 2026 syllabus and exam pattern guide to see which section is holding your total back.
