Response Sheet URL Not Working? 9 Common Problems and Fixes for Answer Key Calculators

The most common message we hear from candidates is "the calculator shows an error". In almost every case the cause is one of a small number of problems with the link that was pasted, not with the calculator or the exam. This guide lists them in order of how often they happen and explains how to fix each one.

Before You Start: What the Calculator Needs

A KeyGuru calculator reads a candidate response sheet, the web page that the examination authority or its technology provider shows after you log in. It needs the page's full web address (URL). It does not need, and you should never enter, your password, OTP or any payment details.

The Problems, One by One

1. You pasted a shortened or shared link

Copy the address from the browser's address bar, not from a "share" button or a messaging app. Shortened links hide the real address, so the calculator cannot recognise the host.

2. The link is incomplete

Response-sheet addresses are long and often contain a string of letters and numbers after a question mark. On mobile browsers it is easy to copy only the first part. Tap the address bar, choose select all, then copy, and paste into a notes app first to check that it ends with a long identifier.

3. The domain is not an official one

For safety, the tools check the host name of the link against a list of official examination and technology-provider domains (for example, digialm.com or tcsion.com, plus the conducting body's own domain on some calculators). A link from a mirror site, a file-sharing site or a blog will be rejected by design.

4. The link has expired or needs your login

Some response-sheet addresses stop working after a while, or work only inside your logged-in session. Open the link in a fresh tab first. If it asks you to log in again or shows an error, go back to the official portal, regenerate the response sheet and copy the new address.

5. You pasted the answer key, not the response sheet

The master answer key and the candidate response sheet are different pages. The calculator needs the one that shows your chosen options.

6. The page is a PDF or an image

The tools read the web-page version. If the authority provides only a PDF, you will need the HTML link, or a different calculator, if one exists for your exam.

7. You selected the wrong exam or tier

Each calculator carries marking rules for its own exam. Choosing, for instance, the SSC CGL calculator for an SSC CHSL sheet will give wrong totals. Use the dedicated page from the exam directory and, where offered, the right tier or stage.

8. The official site was slow or busy

On result and key release days, official servers are overloaded. If you see a timeout or a server error, wait a few minutes and try again.

9. An ad blocker or privacy extension interfered

Occasionally a browser extension blocks scripts that a page needs. Try an incognito or private window with extensions disabled.

When the Score Does Not Match the Official Result

Even when the calculator runs perfectly, the number you see can differ from the official one. These are the usual reasons:

ReasonWhat happens
Provisional vs final keyAuthorities revise answer keys after objections. A calculation on the provisional key can change.
Dropped or bonus questionsQuestions found faulty are dropped or given to all candidates, which changes the maximum and your total.
NormalisationExams held in several shifts convert raw marks into normalised marks. A raw score is not a normalised score.
WeightageSome selections combine scores (for example 80:20) so the final merit is not the paper score.
Language versionMarks and keys are tied to the question version you attempted.

Our guides on normalisation and answer-key objections explain the first two in detail.

A Quick Self-Check

  1. Does your total questions count match the paper pattern (for example 100 for a typical prelims)?
  2. Do correct + wrong + unattempted add up to the total questions?
  3. Do the section totals match the pattern shown on the calculator page?

If any of these fail, the link is probably incomplete or from a different test, and you should regenerate it from the official portal. If everything adds up but the result looks wrong, write to us with the exam name and the page you used (never include passwords or OTPs) through the contact page.
