The last date to apply is 21 October 2026 at 5:30 PM, so anyone interested has very little time. This guide lays out the posts, the four-stage selection, the physical standards and why the Stage-I test, which has no negative marking, rewards a different strategy from most exams.

Selected medical standards
- Minimum height: 157 cm for male and 152 cm for female candidates (relaxations exist for certain domiciles).
- Male minimum chest: 77 cm with at least 5 cm expansion.
- Navik (General Duty) candidates who wear glasses are not eligible.
The Four Stages
- Stage-I: a computer-based test.
- Stage-II: physical fitness test, assessment and adaptability test, document verification and recruitment medical examination.
- Stage-III: verification and pre-enrolment at INS Chilka.
- Stage-IV: final verification of original documents.
Tentative timelines for batch 01/2027 are Stage-I in early to mid November 2026, Stage-II at the end of February 2027, Stage-III in early May 2027, and basic training in May 2027. Batch 02/2027 starts with Stage-I in mid October 2027 and training in November 2027.
Physical Fitness Test (Qualifying)
| Test | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| 1.6 km run | 6 min 30 s | 8 min |
| Squats | 20 | 15 |
| Push-ups | 15 | 10 |
| Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 | 10 |
All four tests are conducted continuously, and a break results in failing the physical fitness test. This is why it is wise to train the four events together, not separately: practise the run first, then go straight into squats, push-ups and sit-ups with minimal rest.
Stage-I Strategy: Why You Should Attempt Every Question
The Stage-I test has 100 one-mark questions and no negative marking. That changes the maths completely compared with railway or bank exams:
Qualifying: 40 (UR/EWS/OBC) or 35 (SC/ST) out of 100
| Situation | Correct | Wrong | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attempt 70, leave 30 blank (assume 56 right) | 56 | 14 | 56 |
| Attempt all 100 (same 80% accuracy on the 70, 25% on the other 30) | 64 | 36 | 64 |
In the second row, the same candidate guesses on the 30 unsure questions, gets about one in four right (roughly 8) at no cost, and finishes on 64 instead of 56. Because a wrong answer costs nothing here, leaving a blank is never better than guessing. (The numbers are illustrative; your accuracy will differ.) The practical rule: use any remaining minutes to answer every question, preferably after eliminating one or two options.
Pay
| Post | Basic pay | Pay level | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yantrik | ₹29,200 | 5 | Yantrik pay ₹6,200 plus DA and allowances |
| Navik (General Duty) | ₹21,700 | 3 | DA and allowances |
| Navik (Domestic Branch) | ₹21,700 | 3 | DA and allowances |
| Hygienist-I | ₹21,700 | 3 | DA and allowances |
