Vacancies by Department
| Post code | Department / post | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Public Health & Municipal Engineering | 21 |
| 02 | Panchayat Raj & Rural Development Engineering | 100 |
| 03 | Rural Water Supply & Sanitation | 73 |
| 04 | Roads & Buildings (Civil) | 75 |

| Total | 503 |
Water Resources alone accounts for about 44.5% of the vacancies. The source lists the 224 posts for codes 07 and 08 together and does not split them between Civil and Mechanical, so candidates in either branch should wait for the detailed notification before judging their odds. Panchayat Raj (100), Roads & Buildings Civil (75) and Rural Water Supply (73) are the next largest.
Eligibility
- Age: 18 to 44 years as on 1 July 2026. Category-wise relaxation is not stated in the brief notification.
- Post codes 01, 03, 04, 07: a Civil Engineering degree (codes 01 and 03 also accept AMIE Sections A and B in Civil).
- Post codes 02 and 06: a Civil or Mechanical Engineering degree.
- Post code 05: an Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Post code 08: a Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
Qualifications must be held on the date of the detailed notification. Because several codes accept more than one branch, read the exact accepted-qualification line for the code you intend to choose.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Selection is a single Computer-Based Recruitment Test with no screening round. Marks may be normalised if the exam runs in more than one session. A Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) of 60 minutes and 100 marks is also mentioned, with minimum qualifying marks of 30 (SC/ST/PBD), 35 (BC) and 40 (OC); its exact place in the final selection is not explained in the brief notification.
| Paper | Subject | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | General Studies & Mental Ability (all codes) | 150 | 150 | 150 min |
| II | Common Civil & Mechanical (codes 01, 02, 03, 04, 06, 07, 08) or Electrical (code 05) | 150 | 150 | 150 min |
| III | Post-specific engineering subject | 150 | 150 | 150 min |
| Total | 450 | 450 | 450 min |
Paper III is Civil Engineering for codes 01, 03, 04 and 07, Common Civil & Mechanical for codes 02 and 06, Electrical for code 05, and Mechanical for code 08.
Worked Example: Paper I Score with 1/3 Negative Marking
Suppose a candidate answers 135 of the 150 questions in General Studies & Mental Ability, getting 105 right and 30 wrong, and leaves 15 blank. The score is 105 − (30 ÷ 3) = 95.00 out of 150. If the same candidate had skipped the ten least certain of those wrong answers, the penalty would drop by 3.33 marks, which is roughly the value of three more correct answers.
Why the engineering papers decide the rank
Papers II and III are both 150 marks and are technical, so two-thirds of the 450 marks test your engineering knowledge. Paper I is the only common paper, so protect your marks there with careful attempt discipline and use Papers II and III to build your lead.
Time Planning for a 450-Minute Exam
With 150 minutes and 150 questions per paper, you have an average of one minute per question. Technical papers usually contain a few numerical questions that take three to four minutes each; plan to mark and skip these on the first pass so they do not eat into the quick conceptual questions.
Not stated in the brief notification
- Application fee and fee exemptions.
- Category-wise age relaxation.
- Exam date, admit card date and CPT date.
- Weightage and place of the CPT in the final merit list.
- The Civil/Mechanical split of the 224 Water Resources posts.
